Thankful

I am thankful for many things. Anita and I were saying recently how lucky we are. We had been out shopping and felt a kind of relief to return home. At home the birds sing, it is a home of peace and hope and we feel safe. During our outing twice people had blasted their car horns at us, being such an expert driver, I doubt it was anything to do with my driving. We had also witnessed the rush, rudeness, crime and profanities of society.

As we return to the joy that we have as church together, how wonderful to be free again to be in each other’s presence. Although we sometimes may need to block out the world and hide in the peace of our own homes. I am conscious of remembering to take this hope we have in Jesus out into that sometimes yuck community and believe all the goodness we share is somewhat meaningless if we don’t share it with the rest of the world.

As we come together, I think about those who are not with us and those we are still to reach. What good news it is to know Christ who gives us true peace and hope is with us everywhere we go. I am most thankful for this. “The person who loves their dream of community will destroy community, but the person who loves those around them will create community.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
